In Spain, the average income of a Spanish citizen is around 1750€ net a month and Padel has grown organically over decades, making it highly affordable. However, in emerging markets like the USA, high costs can be attributed to limited supply and the newness of the sport.For the global development of Padel, it’s crucial to strike a balance. Last month, I played Padel in Spain for €2.50 (90 minutes). 🇪🇸Yesterday, I read about a club in Ontario (USA) where renting a court for 90 minutes costs $140 ($35 per person). 🇺🇸The question is simple: 𝐈𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞? 🤔The answer is more complex.All the international players who come to train with Padel Travel in #Malaga and #Madrid ask us: How much does it cost to rent a court here? The answer always triggers a reaction of amazement. "A court in our country costs 3/4/5 times more..."𝐒𝐨, 𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞?I believe that to start answering our question, we need to consider:#Historical #Context: Padel spread in Spain in the early '90s, and those who played were the owners of the "plazas de toros" and the Prime Ministers. Access to the service is very easy. As in any other sector, high demand and low supply = high price.#cost of #living: How much does a meal cost in Murcia compared to London? How much is a bus ticket in Alicante vs. New York? Did you know that? 👇 A Mexican by name of Enrique Corcuera is believed to be the founder of padel - by accident 😁 How did he came up with the idea? Well, Corcuera built a court to play tennis at his home in Acapulco in the late 1960s. Not long after, he found that if tennis balls were overhit, which was the case most of the time, they would go all over the place and into neighbouring houses. To prevent this from happening, Corcuera figured, why not surround the court with fences on all sides 💡 However, with these adjustments in place, he still faced some problems as normal tennis rackets generated too much power for the small court 💥 Corcuera and his friends eventually exchanged their tennis rackets for a wooden beach paddle bat. Later, a rulebook evolved, which allowed the players to play off walls, and the rest is history!Fast forward to 2024 where padel has become one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide. More and more people are finding their way to padel courts because of the intrinsic dynamic and social nature of the sport. Here are the figures detailing the impact of the America's Cup in Barcelona ⬇️Barcelona is set to hoist its sails for the America’s Cup, anticipated to generate an impact of 1.115 billion euros and attract 2.5 million tourists to the Catalan capital, according to a study by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona (UPF). ↳ Of the total, an estimated 231 million euros will come from team spending, while visitors are expected to spend 689 million euros. Additionally, 195 million euros will be attributed to organisational costs.↳ Team expenses are highly polarised between the main teams and the women's and youth teams: the former will spend 225 million euros, while the latter will only disburse six million euros.↳ Visitor spending breakdown: 482 million euros by foreign spectators, 113 million by nationals, and 94 million by other visitors.
