Charlie Benante and Carla Harvey Pick Their Favorite Action Movies (2025)

Action Week at Consequence continues with heavy metal couple Charlie Benante and Carla Harvey each sharing lists of their 10 Favorite Action Movies of All Time. Be sure to see which of these great action films appear on our list of the best action movie franchises of all time, as well as our look back at cinema’s great female action heroes.

What’s the old saying? The couple that watches action movies together, stays together. In the case of drummer Charlie Benante (Anthrax, Pantera) and singer Carla Harvey (Lords of Acid, The Violent Hour), a love for action movies is just one of many things the engaged couple has in common.

After dating for several years, Benante proposed to Harvey in January 2024 while the pair were attending U2’s concert at The Sphere in Las Vegas. They’re set to wed later this year.

Benante has been a member of thrash icons Anthrax for more than 40 years, and for the past couple years has also played drums for metal legends Pantera. Anthrax have been working on a highly anticipated new album, while Pantera have been busy touring with Metallica, with a headlining US tour of their own set for this summer (tickets available here).

Harvey, meanwhile, exited her longtime band Butcher Babies last year, but is busy as ever in 2025. She was named the new singer of industrial-dance veterans Lords of Acid earlier this year, and will kick off a US tour with the band beginning May 27th in San Francisco (pick up tickets here). She has also started her own project called The Violent Hour, with writing contributions from Benante. The first single, “Sick Ones,” features guitar-work from Mötley Crüe’s John 5.

Benante and Harvey each picked their 10 favorite action movies as part of Consequence’s Action Week. See their respective lists below.

John Wick: Chapter 4 (Lionsgate)

The Matrix (1999):This movie was way ahead of its time and it spawned so many CGI copycat visuals.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981): The best for me. I can’t think of a better action movie, maybe Temple of Doom? Spielberg and Ford knocked this one out of the park

The Warriors (1971): Growing up in the Bronx, New York, I thought this was real. I loved this movie, You had to if you lived in New York.

RoboCop (1987): Futuristic police set in a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit — I love this concept. One of my favorites.

John Wick 1 & 2(2014 & 2017): Keanu just kicks ass in these movies, whatever is thrown at him. He just destroys. He is just a good dude who happens to be a BADASS! I did the music for the John Wick pinball machine. I am partial to these movies.

The Terminator (1984): Arnold… Need I say more?

Predator (1987): Arnold again, but this movie has a horror-like element. Action at its best.

El Mariachi (1992): LOVE THIS MOVIE! He just wants to play music but that turns violent quickly.

The Dark Knight (2008): Heath Ledger makes this movie. His portrayal of the Joker will never be topped.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1982): A young Mel Gibson. I remember watching this movie on HBO and being glued to the TV. I think I’ve seen this over 100 times. I love everything about this movie.
